Kinshasa Province (Democratic Republic of Congo): Typology of Peri-Urban Ecosystems Providing Edible Insects

Tropical peri-urban ecosystems are essential for the urban population’s well-being through goods and services they provide. Unfortunately, these subjected to anthropogenic pressures various reasons. This study aims assess diversity structure of that provide most edible insects in Kinshasa. A total 360 people were interviewed identify two insect species frequently consumed. The tree inventory was carried out 50 plots (2500 m2 each), which 25 Acacia plantations, 10 planted Milletia forests, 15 natural Millettia forests. diameters each tree, dbh ≥ cm, measured. Principal component analysis (PCA) used distinguish forest communities. Diversity indices floristic variability structural parameters characterize stands. Two identified as being commonly consumed Kinshasa: Gonimbrasia jamesoni (28%) Cirina forda (27%), found plantation, forests Milletti forest, respectively. results indicate (higher plantation) between stands indicates good news all except forest. high frequency/dominance A. auriculiformis M. laurentii Kinshasa would therefore be optimal conditions (under conditions) production caterpillar species.
